What is HNBR (Therban®)?
Therban® is a partially or fully hydrogenated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber. To make Therban®, Perbunan NT is hydrogenated with acrylonitrile butadiene rubber. Although all HNBR products exhibit certain characteristics, such as high mechanical strength, heat resistance and oil resistance that are better than standard NBR and many other polymers, Therban® offers a number of qualities that perform well in the most technically extreme environments.
Modern automotive technology requires elastomers that are resistant to high temperatures and aggressive substances and that are able to meet the specific requirements of fuel-saving engine and car bodies. The requirements in the oil exploration industry are just as high. Here elastomers have to withstand aggressive environments, explosive decompression and high mechanical stresses. Some typical features of HNBR-Therban®; Hardness (Shore A) 50-90. Tensile strengths 15-38 and elongation at break 100-600. Compression set values at 70 ° C 55-65.
Therban® is suitable for:
- O-rings
- Wheel bearing seals
- Shock absorber seals
- Camshaft seals
- Power steering assembly seals
- Water pump seals
- Gearbox shaft seals
- Air conditioning system seals
- Fuel system seals for diesel and RME
